About us

The Practice

The practice is situated on the corner of Southfield Loan and Milton Road and is situated on ground floor level so is easily accessible for wheelchairs. Ample car parking is available on the street outside.

It is our practice philosophy to promote dental health at all times. Therefore we recommend regular check-ups. These will also help keep down the cost of treatment. Patients are seen mainly on the NHS with some treatment being provided privately.See our section on the difference between NHS and private treatment.

If you are in one of the following categories you may qualify for full or part exemption from payment, under 18, under 19 and in full-time education, unemployed, expectant mother, mother with a child under one year or receiving social security benefits.

Fees for treatment are either NHS fees or private fees. We request that payment is made for the treatment received at the end of each appointment with us. We accept Visa/Mastercard/Switch/Delta/Cash & Cheques when supported by a valid bank card.

Patients who fail to attend their appointments without giving 24 hours notice may be subject to a cancellation fee.

The Staff

John and Graeme are our dentists. It is our policy for you to see one dentist on a regular basis although in an emergency this may not be possible. Both dentists are regular attenders at post-graduate courses ensuring that we are always up to date with the latest techniques and materials.

John qualified from Edinburgh in 1974 and has been in practice in Edinburgh since then, setting up Duddingston Dental Practice in 1984. He has an interest in all aspects of restorative dentistry and has been a trainer for the South East of Scotland vocational training scheme since 1994. Courses of a different kind tend to keep him occupied away from the surgery as is regularly found on the golf course!

Graeme is originally from Portrush in Northern Ireland and has worked in the practice for the past 3 years having left Dundee Dental Hospital. Graeme has a keen interest in crown, bridge and denture work. He also deals with many of the children in the practice, also treating some orthodontic cases. He is currently also working part-time in Dunfermline as a clinical assistant in orthodontics.

Sheila and Violetta are our nurses. Sheila has worked with John for the past 25 years. Violetta is originally from Australia and has been working with Graeme for the past year.

Marjorie and Margaret are our receptionists and will probably be your first contact with us.
